The Lace Reader begins with an interesting premise, but quickly bogs down in fairly incomprehensible detail of lace reading. Towner is a beguiling character whose personality unfolds as the tale is revealed. She was what kept me reading.

The Lace Reader discussion views. I liked this book enough to read it all the way through - which is something I don't always do. I did not feel that the book really carried itself throughout, although I was enthralled by sections of the plot, it seemed weak in others.

But good enough to read and recommend - but not on my list of best. Towner comes from an old Salem family known for a tendency toward quirkiness and an uncanny ability to read lace.
